Punky Brewster is an American sitcom about a warm, funny, and bright girl abandoned by her parents. Her outfit in the show was designed to be wicked, with all the bright colors and layers. She matched any colors, clashing or not, and wore several garments atop the other.
It is very easy to make up this costume because all you need to do is rummage inside your closet, find every last bit of bright colored clothing and start mismatching. There are a few important details to highlight though, so you would certainly look like this adorable young girl.
First, since she's punky, we'll go over the rough bit side. Meaning, no skirts, heels and laces. This costume is all about having no care to the world, and just having fun.
To start off, you need a t-shirt, a long sleeved shirt, and a vest. And yes, those three are worn all at the same time. They must also come in different bright colors. Long sleeves must be worn first, and then shirt and the outermost part would be the vest. Colors must mismatch. For example, green long sleeves, orange shirt, and blue vest. You get the idea.
Pair these with jeans that is rolled on one side, and the other upper right side tied with a bandana. Jeans that are a bit tattered would look better. Wear a belt that is differently colored than the ones already worn.
For the shoes, wear mismatched sneakers. Color and style must be totally different. You can mismatch the lace colors too and wear differently colored socks.
For the hair, pig-tails tied using a yellow sun-shaped ponytail design. Also, having thick bangs is a must.
Now you're all punky and funky at the same time. You can bring a lollipop for props.
Also, this costume goes well either kids or teenagers. The point of this costume is to express a laid back fun-filled life. It's actually very obvious with all the colors.
